U.S. Cars That Were Ahead of Their Time – Some Paid the Price for It
For most of the 20th century, the U.S. car industry was at the forefront of innovation and design. American cars introduced many advanced concepts and patents that are standards to this day. However, in the thousands of models offered in that period, some were much more influential than others.
Cool video from American Legends that looks at some of the most forward-thinking U.S. cars ever made. Even though some of the features and innovations ended up being failures, they still impacted the industry. Check it out!

The Story of the Nash Healey Roadster
In 1951 Nash introduced America’s first sports car since the 1920s. This stylish little roadster was the result of an unlikely chance meeting of two men at opposite extremes of the automotive industry. At the end of 1949, while aboard the England-bound Queen Elizabeth, the rather conservative Nash-Kelvinator president George Mason met British sports car builder Donald Healey, and they hit it off thanks to their shared love of photography.
By September 1950 a prototype Nash-Healey was on show at the Paris Salon, with the car making its official debut in February 1951 at the Chicago Auto Show.
We love this story about how two automotive innovators met and created a unique joint effort that became an instant classic. This article from Below-The-Radar.com (love the name) lays out the details in how the car came about and includes some interesting quotes from Motor Trend and Road & Track articles of the day.
