Portraits of the Past
Audrain Automobile Museum, Newport RI
Founded in 2014 in Newport, Rhode Island with a mission of "Preserving, Celebrating & Sharing Automotive History," the Audrain Automobile Museum connects and engages with other local non-profits and the greater Aquidneck Island community.
America’s love affair with automobiles is intrinsic, and Newport’s place in the history of the automobile is essential. The museum supports and educates the Aquidneck Island community through programs and car events, including the Audrain Newport Concours & Motor Week, "A Celebration of History, Luxury, & Sport," held each year in early October.
We've been fans of the Audrain Automobile Museum's YouTube video series for a while, especially the ones with Jay Leno, so take a look at their website and follow along on their videos, they are always fun and informative. Check it out!

Icons: Carl Borgward's Isabella
How many readers under the age of 50 have heard of Borgward, let alone acquired any real knowledge of the German cars? Yet, for a short time in the second half of the 1950s, the Borgward star shone brightly, before vanishing almost overnight in an unnecessary plunge into insolvency that surely could've been averted.
Carl F. W. Borgward was a German industrialist who got involved in the car business in 1919 by way of an automotive parts company called Bremer Reifen-Industrie GmbH. That company would eventually become the Borgward company. (https://auto.howstuffworks.com/story-borgward-german-carmaker-never-heard.htm)
The Borgward name is definitely one that most people don't know, even some car enthusiasts may not have heard of it. But, it holds a special place in history and is a fascinating story. Take a look at this excellent MotorTrend.com article, and do some more digging on this nearly forgotten marque. You'll be glad you checked it out.
